Pavlik re-signs with Top Rank
Middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik has re-signed with Top Rank and will remain with the promotional company for several more years, according to a report from WFJM-TV.
Pavlik signed with Top Rank when he went pro in 2000 and has been with the company since. His deal with the company was set to expire in May 2010.
Pavlik was set to fight Sergio Mora on June 27, but the fight was postponed. It could be rescheduled for September.

Boardman wins regional preview
BOARDMAN — Sophomore Julie Sokol (5-0) pitched two-plus innings of relief to get the win as Boardman defeated Massillon Jackson 12-8 to hand the Polar Bears their first Federal League loss at the Fields of Dreams.
Alex DiDomenico, Danielle Petrus and Angela Martin all homered for the Spartans (23-7, 8-6) and Liz Padgitt added three hits.
The two teams will meet again today in a Division I regional semifinal.
Poland tops Ursuline
BOARDMAN — Adrianna Sikora singled twice and Jenna Modic doubled as the Poland High softball team took a 7-2 decision from Ursuline.
Miranda Carkido led the Irish with a double.
Fitch falls to McKinley
CANTON —Megan Carney doubled and singled, Carly Ortz had two hits and two RBIs and Haley Martinelli had a two-run double for Fitch, which fell to Canton McKinley 5-4 in a Federal League softball game on Tuesday.
Stephanie Berdis had two hits, and Heidi Soriano struck out 10 in a losing effort.

O’Brien now a Raider
ALLIANCE — Brookfield High School senior Mac O’Brien will play football at Mount Union.
O’Brien, a 5-11, 175-pound safety/running back, was an all-district, all-county and all-conference selection for coach Randy Clark at Brookfield.
O’Brien is an undeclared major and the son of Chris and Laura O’Brien and Heather Wassil.
Drummond decides
ALLIANCE — Warren JFK senior John Drummond will wrestle for Mount Union College.
Drummond, a 5-11 210-pound wrestler, was a four-year letter winner, a two-time sectional placer and a district placer.
Drummond was a team captain his senior year and also lettered in football.
Mount Union, a NCAA Division III member of the Ohio Athletic Conference, placed second at the OAC wrestling championships and second-year coach Mark Hawald was named OAC Coach of the Year.
Longtime Vindicator sports writer dies
LEETONIA — Bob Curry, a longtime sports writer for The Vindicator, died Monday. He was 83.
Curry, who worked at The Vindicator from 1955 to 1990, was also a well-known track official.
He was inducted into several halls of fame, including East Liverpool High School (where he graduated in 1942), the United Press International Sportswriters and the Ohio High School Athletic Association Track Officials.

Smith football camp
YOUNGSTOWN — Brad Smith, a member of the New York Jets football team, will offer a free football camp at Chaney High School on July 10-11.
Smith played football at Chaney and the University of Missouri.
The second annual Brad Smith Sportsfest will open with the Bowling with the NFL Stars on July 10 at the Mahoning Valley Bowl Center.
Next, the football and cheerleading camp for students in grades 1-8 will be July 11 at Chaney High.
