Ed McMahon settles lawsuits over his fall

LOS ANGELES — Ed McMahon has ended his civil case against those he blamed for his broken neck.

Attorneys for the former “Tonight” show sidekick have in recent weeks settled lawsuits against the hospital and doctors that McMahon claimed had failed to spot his broken neck and then failed to properly repair it.

On Thursday, attorneys for the 86-year-old TV personality filed for dismissal of his lawsuit against billionaire Robert Day and his wife. McMahon blamed conditions at the Days’ home for his fall in March 2008.

Terms of the settlements haven’t been disclosed in court records.

After the fall, McMahon suffered a series of financial setbacks. He was hospitalized earlier this year for treatment of pneumonia and other ailments.

Stripes drummer weds in double ceremony

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — White Stripes drummer Meg White has married fianc Jackson Smith in Nashville.

The publicist for the 34-year-old rock drummer said in a statement Tuesday that the ceremony was part of a double wedding Friday in the backyard of White’s musical partner, Jack White.

Smith is the son of punk singer Patti Smith and the late guitarist Fred “Sonic” Smith of the rock band MC5. The younger Smith is also a rock guitarist.

The other two people who wed Friday were Jack Lawrence and his girlfriend, Jo McCaughey.

Lawrence is the bass player in Jack White’s other musical projects: the Raconteurs and the Dead Weather.

The White Stripes got their start in Detroit. Though Meg and Jack White have claimed to be siblings, court records have suggested they were married for four years before divorcing in 2000.

Divorcing Mel Gibson, girlfriend expecting baby

LOS ANGELES — Mel Gibson shared some baby news on Jay Leno’s final week as “Tonight” show host.

Gibson’s publicist, Alan Nierob, said the actor confirmed during the show’s taping Monday that his girlfriend, 39-year-old Oksana Grigorieva, is pregnant.

The news comes only six weeks after Gibson’s wife filed for divorce.

The 53-year-old Oscar-winner has seven children with wife Robyn, but the couple has been separated for almost three years.

She cited irreconcilable differences in her April 13 divorce petition to end their marriage of 28 years.
