Bettura, Snoddy honored

The local softball players were selected to the All-West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team.

Two Youngs-town-area freshman softball pitchers for Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, W. Va., were selected to the All-West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team.

Tricia Bettura from Canfield High was picked to the second team while Erica Snoddy from Lisbon David Anderson High and Salem, gained honorable mention.

Bettura, who helped Canfield win the Division II state championship last season, led Shepherd in wins (10-9), strikeouts (123), opponent batting average (.245), innings pitched (134.2), appearances (25) and starts (19).

She also batted .322 928-for-87) with 18 RBIs, 12 runs scored, seven doubles and two homers.

Snoddy, who made first-team All-Inter Tri-County League Tier One in 2007 and 2008, led Shepherd in ERA (2.22), win percentage (.636), relief appearances (12) and saves (2).

She also paced the Rams in batting average (.375) and on-base percentage.

The daughter of Joseph and Edith Bettura, Bettura is majoring in education.

Joseph Bettura played baseball for Ashland University.

Bettura won three softball letters at Canfield under coach Ronnie Haurin, and was a three-time first-team All-Metro Athletic Conference selection.

She also gained All-District and All-Northeast Ohio honors.

Bettura was a member of three MAC title teams and two district title teams.

Snoddy is the daughter of Ryan and Nancy Snoddy.

While at Lisbon, Snoddy lettered four years in softball.

Her coach was Dave Crismon.

Snoddy also lettered three years in basketball and two in cross country.

Shepherd posted a 23-23 record, including 15-13 in the WVIAC.
