PH.D.

Science education

M. Kathleen Leslie Cripe has received her doctor of philosophy degree in curriculum and instruction, majoring in science education from the University of Akron.

While completing her coursework, she served as adjunct faculty at both Youngstown State University and the University of Akron in both the chemistry and education departments. In addition, she serves as evaluator in the Ohio Partnership for the Far East Region Science Teachers grant program at YSU.

Cripe is a graduate of Ursuline High School and received both her bachelor’s degree in combined science and a master’s degree in chemistry from YSU.

She has accepted a tenured assistant-professor position at Walsh University, Canton, in the division of education.

She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Leslie of Austintown. She lives in Austintown with her husband, Jay, and their two daughters, Emily and Grace.

Court consortium

Judge Robert A. Douglas Jr. of Youngstown Municipal Court recently attended the 21st annual meeting of the National Consortium on Racial and Ethnic Fairness in the Courts in Pittsburgh.

Judge Douglas was asked to attend on behalf of Chief Justice Thomas J. Moyer of the Ohio Supreme Court, who has provided strong leadership on racial fairness in Ohio courts over the years.

Recommen-dations issued by the Commission on Racial Fairness and the Racial Fairness Implementation Task Force have resulted in additional judicial education requirements for judges on access to justice and fairness in courts.

Judge Douglas has served on the municipal court bench since 1997.
