Optimists put safety first

Singled out for recognition at the May 12 dinner meeting of Austintown Optimist Club at the Saxon Club was Andy Frost III, assistant chief of Austintown Fire Department.

A plaque, designating him as Austintown’s Safety Forces Person of the Year for 2008, was presented to Frost, at right, by the club’s secretary, Atty. Dean Ferris.

Frost began working as a volunteer at the department and was hired as a full time fireman in 1992. He was appointed assistant fire chief in 2006 and has been instrumental in many of the advances the department has made.
