AUSTINTOWN — Community Fellowship Church of God, 4125 Lanterman Road, will have a pastor appreciation at its morning service at 10 a.m. May 31.

A luncheon will follow.

The theme of the day is “We are Praying for You.”

The Rev. Mr. Frederick, his wife and three children came from Marantha Ministries in Alliance.

First Friday Club

BOARDMAN — Mike Hayes will be the featured speaker when the First Friday Club of Greater Youngstown meets June 4 at Antone’s Banquet Centre, 8578 Market St.

He is managing editor of BustedHalo.com and will speak on the topic: “Googling God: Religion and the Internet.”

Cookout and celebration

NILES — Geoffrey A. Cooper of Disciples of Faith Ministries has invited the public to a cookout and to hear a word to celebrate the glory of God on June 5 and 6 at Waddell Park, 34 W. State St.

The event, which marks the release of Cooper’s new book, “The Way and the Truth for Life,” will run from 4:30 to 7 p.m. June 5 and 2:30 to 5 p.m. June 6.

Deacons honored

YOUNGSTOWN — An appreciation service for two longtime deacons at Rising Star Baptist Church, 2943 Wardle Ave., will be at 5 p.m. May 31.

Deacon Charles Rhodes of Youngstown has retired from the board after 28 years of service. He has served in numerous church ministries, including a prison ministry and adult Sunday school teacher. He also was a deacon at Zion Hill Baptist Church before coming to Rising Star. He is retired from General Motors Corp.

Deacon Frank Singletary of Brimfield Township, formerly of Youngstown, has stepped down after 18 years on the board and 20 years as the church’s financial secretary. He also served as a church trustee and Sunday school teacher. He works at General Motors.

Both men also served several years on the church council.

The Rev. Sampson Murray, pastor of Triedstone Baptist Church, Warren, is the speaker.

Refreshments will be served in Tatum Fellowship Hall.

Nature Walk

VILLA MARIA, Pa. — The Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center will have a “Nature Walk: Nature Poetry” program from 2 to 4 p.m. May 31 at the Villa Maria Community Center.

Participants are asked to bring their favorite nature poem to share during the walk. Dress for the weather and meet at Villa Maria Farm.

Song ministry

COLUMBIANA — Tia Ciferno, Christian singer, songwriter and speaker, will present a ministry of song at 6 p.m. June 7 in Zion Hill Church of the Brethren, 14550 New Buffalo Road.

A love offering will be accepted.

Ministry celebrated

BOARDMAN —St. James Episcopal Church, 7640 Glenwood Ave., will continue its bicentennial celebration with a festival Eucharist marking the life and ministry of Bishop Jackson Kemper (1789-1870) at 10 a.m. Sunday.

The Rev. Mr. Kemper was an itinerant priest who traveled on horseback among frontier Episcopalians to share Holy Communion, to baptize and to preach. His 1814 visit to Boardman is the first record of an Episcopal priest celebrating Holy Communion and baptizing 28 people at St. James Church.

Fruit of the Spirit

CAMPBELL — Faith Temple Baptist Church, 125 Roosevelt drive, will have a “Fruit of the Spirit” program at 4 p.m. Sunday.

The guest speakers are: First Lady Lucille Gillespie, Minister Charity Lavelle, Cassandra Lavelle, Minister Renee Jackson, Evangelist Arlene Williams, Minister Sarah Jenkins, Minister Pam Cozart, Minister Janaire Croom and Minister Jerry Croom.

Summer hours

NORTH LIMA — Mt. Olivet United Church of Christ, 410 W. South Range Road, will change its Sunday morning worship service to its summer hour of 9:30 a.m. beginning May 31.

A nursery is available.

‘A Deck of Cards’

YOUNGSTOWN — The Rev. Paul Coleman will return to Christ Church Presbyterian, Hopkins and Canfield roads, for a Memorial Day service at 10:45 a.m. Sunday.

His topic will be, “A Deck of Cards,” which highlights a conversation between a soldier and a chaplain.

The service will feature color guards, bagpipes and the playing of taps.

Great Food For All

AUSTINTOWN — Smith Corners United Methodist Church, 3000 S. Canfield-Niles Road, has joined the nondenominational Great Food For All program that provides a relief from grocery prices through a monthly food distribution.

There are no income guidelines and no application is required to participate. The only requirement is that an order be placed for the food during specified ordering times.

That requires a visit to the church and placing a pre-paid food order. The basic food box is $30 and includes a variety of meats, vegetables and more. Payment must be made in the form of cash, cashier’s check or money order. No personal checks will be accepted.

The deadline for ordering food for the June 13 distribution is June 1. The site is open for orders from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to noon June 1.

Missionary day

YOUNGSTOWN — Phillips Chapel CME Church, 1215 Berkley Ave., will have its Annual Missionary Day from 2 to 4 p.m. May 30.

Johanna Harris, Cleveland-Pittsburgh District Missionary president, will be the guest speaker.

All missionaries are asked to wear white.

Refreshments will be served.

Commencement services

YOUNGSTOWN — Ebenezer Life Center Church of God in Christ, 566 W. Indianola Ave., will have commencement services at 11 a.m. Sunday to honor eight members who have completed a 10-week Christian ministry course.

The church-sponsored course consisted of theology, Christology, Biblical anthropology and spiritual warfare.

The graduates are: Carla Gipson, Annett Ingram, Tierra Kelly, Kevin King, Jackie Menton, Gaylord Murray, Judith Patmon and Desja Phillips.

Men and women’s day

YOUNGSTOWN — St. James AME Church will have its Annual Men and Women’s Day Program at 4 p.m. Sunday in Reed’s Chapel AME Church, 1939 Jacobs Road.

The Rev. Wesley I. Reed, pastor of Lee Memorial Church, Cleveland, will be the guest speaker.

Sing-along planned

GIRARD — New Life Christian Fellowship, 2088 Tibbetts Wick Road, will have a community Gospel hymn “Sing-Along” May 30.

The program will begin with a time of fellowship at 6:30 p.m. The music begins at 7 p.m.

Octogenarian recognition

YOUNGSTOWN — The Richard Brown Memorial United Methodist Church, 1205 Elm St., will have an Octogenarian Recognition service at 10:45 a.m. May 31.
