Salcedo in state tennis tournament for fourth straight time

OBERLIN — Boardman High senior Robert Salcedo qualified for the state tennis tournament in singles by beating Alex Mihas of Lakewood, 6-0, 6-0, and Maxi Mullally of Shaker Heights, 6-4, 6-1, in the Division I district tournament Thursday.
Mullally is a foreign exchange student from Argentina.
Thursday’s performance enabled Salcedo to qualify for state for a fourth straight year.
In semifinals at Tri-City Park in Rocky River, Saturday at 9 a.m., Salcedo will be playing Ethan Dunbar of Cloverleaf.
The semifinals among the final four will determine seeding for state the following weekend.
Howland’s Matt Madgar was eliminated when he lost to Tommy Marx of Shaker Heights, 6-1, 6-0.
Division II
CANTON — Warren JFK’s Michael Fredericka and Poland’s Ben Brocker advanced to the district semifinals in singles on Saturday.
Cardinal Mooney’s Luka Spahija and Matt Higham did not advance.
No area team advanced in doubles after Alex Tadla and Stu Duchek and Anthony Rosselli and Kenny Duncan (both from Poland), Mark Pelini and John Critell (Mooney) and Alex Dager and Zach McDivitt (Lakeview) were eliminated.
