Forecast calls for dry holiday weekend

STAFF REPORT

YOUNGSTOWN — It looks like the temperature will be ideal for cookouts, watching parades and other outdoor activities for the Memorial Day weekend.

But it won’t be until Memorial Day when the clouds will lift and let the sun shine in the Mahoning Valley, according to the National Weather Service.

Despite the clouds, the weather-service forecast calls for no rain during the long holiday weekend.

The high temperatures for today and Saturday will be in the upper 70s, according to the service’s forecast.

The highs for Sunday and Monday are expected to be in the mid-70s.

The average high for this time of the year in the Mahoning Valley is 71 to 72 degrees.

The forecast calls for lows in the mid-50s today and Sunday. The low Saturday should drop to the low 50s Saturday and be in the upper 50s Monday.

That’s better than the average lows for this time of the year — between 48 and 49 degrees.

The temperatures are in contrast to the temperatures from earlier in the week.

It dropped to 30 degrees Monday, the record low for any May 18.

The weather service has temperature records for the Valley dating from 1897.
