Case dismissed against Ohio police chief, son

CANTON, Ohio (AP) — A judge has tossed out a computer tampering case against an Ohio police chief and his son.

Judge Lee Sinclair of Stark County Common Pleas Court ruled Wednesday that prosecutors did not present enough evidence against Marlboro Township Chief Ronald Devies and his 21-year-old son, Kyle.

The younger Devies had been the network administrator for the township outside Canton in northeast Ohio. He said he removed only personal programs from the computers when his job was cut in January, but township trustees grew suspicious and asked for an investigation.

Kyle Devies was charged with disrupting public services, a felony. His police chief father was charged with complicity to disrupting services and misdemeanor dereliction of duty.

The chief says he’s relieved by the outcome.
