Author of Alzheimer’s book schedules events

COLUMBIANA — Wayne Glenn Terry, 1962 graduate of Jackson-Milton High School and author of “Time Zones ... Slipping Away,” a book about his journey with Alzheimer’s disease and coping skills for those living with a dementia disease, will speak at 3 p.m. Friday at Windsor House, St. Mary’s Alzheimer’s Center, 1899 West Garfield Road.

He also will sign books and speak from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at Poland Public Library, 311 S. Main St., Poland.

Terry lives in Virginia with his wife, Donna; his three children live in the Mahoning and Columbiana areas.

Copies of the book may be purchased online at www.amazon.com or www.fatherspress.com for $21.80 plus shipping. There also will be books available at both locations at a discounted price. All proceeds from the book sale will be donated to Alzheimer’s disease research.

Campbell man jailed in double stabbing

YOUNGSTOWN — The Campbell man at the center of a police investigation into the stabbing of two men is in Mahoning County Jail with bond set at $250,000.

Jeffrey Shugart, 36, of Hyatt Street, was arraigned Wednesday before Judge Robert A. Douglas Jr. of Youngstown Municipal Court.

Shugart is charged with two counts of felonious assault. Police said he stabbed two men Tuesday. Police responding to the stabbing on Pasadena Avenue on the city’s South Side also were forced to shoot a pit bull dog, who police said Shugart let loose when leaving the house to escape from officers.

5 shots fire into home where woman lives

YOUNGSTOWN — Police are trying to determine who is responsible for firing several shots into an occupied home on the city’s East Side.

A 32-year-old city woman told police she noticed two men in a blue Ford Taurus with temporary tags sitting in front of her Willow Court apartment at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

She said the driver of the car pulled out a gun and fired five shots at her home.

Two shots came through the wall, and three shots came through a living room window.

Police found five shell casings in front of the house. No one was reported injured.

Police seek two men in abduction attempt

YOUNGSTOWN — Police are looking for two men who tried to abduct a 51-year-old woman from the front yard of her Erie Street home.

According to police, the woman was taking out the trash just after 11 p.m. Tuesday when a man grabbed her from behind and tried to force her back toward her home. Another man stood a short distance away, appearing to be a lookout, reports said.

The woman told police the man who grabbed her dropped a gun. She called out for her husband, who came outside upon hearing the commotion. The two men, after one picked up the gun, eventually ran off to Midlothian Boulevard and then toward Market Street.

YMCA sets Spintacular, Memorial 5 Race

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown YMCA, 17 N. Champion St., will host two events Saturday — the annual Memorial Outdoor Spintacular, beginning at 8 a.m., and the Memorial 5 Race, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

The outdoor spinning event is open to members and nonmembers, and day-of-race registration is available. Registration includes the ride, a T-shirt and food. The Memorial 5 features a 5-mile fun run, a 5-mile walk and a half-mile kids’ fun run. The event is open to members and nonmembers.

The Memorial 5 is sponsored by Donnell Ford and mile marker sponsors Belleria Pizza and Italian Restaurant, Bedford Trails Golf Course, Capital Vending, Atty. Michael Maillis and Ram Tuff Muffler.
