Youngstown TV stations to do digital tests

STAFF REPORT

Youngstown’s three broadcast television stations will comply with an FCC request to conduct analog soft shut-off tests Thursday. Station WFMJ Channel 21 will conduct the five-minute tests at 7:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.; WKBN-TV 27 and WYTV-TV 33 will air the tests at 7:25 a.m., 12:25 p.m. and 6:25 p.m.

During the tests, televisions not ready for the digital transition will see a message telling them that their set needs to be upgraded to digital before June 12.

This will give viewers a chance to see which television sets in their homes are ready for the digital transition and which ones need an upgrade through cable, satellite or a digital converter box.

Viewers seeing the message will be given a phone number to call during the test to ask questions and get additional information.

This test will be viewers final opportunity to see if their homes are ready for the nationwide digital transition.
