Valley home sales rose in April

Home sales rose in the Mahoning Valley last month, but sellers aren’t getting the prices they used to.

Figures released by the Youngstown Columbiana Association of Realtors showed that the number of homes sold last month rose in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, when compared with April 2008. The average selling price in all three counties was down, however.

In Mahoning County, deals were closed on 181 homes last month, compared with 162 in April 2008. The average selling price last month was $76,072, down from $80,029 a year earlier. It took an average of 128 days to sell a house last month, which was up one day from a year earlier.

In Trumbull County, 136 homes were sold last month, compared with 132 in April 2008. The average selling price last month was $70,945, compared with $80,844 a year earlier. It took an average of 125 days to sell a house last month, one day less than in April 2008.

In Columbiana County, 84 homes were sold last month, compared with 76 in April 2008. The average selling price last month was $77,665, compared with $80,402 a year earlier. It took an average of 109 days to sell a house last month, up 11 days from a year earlier.
