Players try out for spot with Thunder

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning Valley Thunder had a few tryouts at Tuesday’s practice at the Covelli Centre, including Joe Kleinsmith, a 5-foot-11, 197-pound defensive back from Indiana University.

He played at Lakewood St. Edward High in Cleveland.

Kleinsmith is expected to be signed by the Thunder, but isn’t expected to be active for Friday’s game in Manchester, N.H.

Also, Brandon Sullivan was the only other new face at practice.

The 6-7, 320-pound Sullivan from Harrison, Ohio, played for Tiffin University as an offensive lineman in the fall of 2008.

Also on Tuesday, former YSU kicker Brian Palmer returned to another Thunder practice session.
