FARRELL, Pa. — In a race for four seats that was decided in Tuesday’s primary elections, two incumbents and two newcomers will sit on the city council.

Incumbent Robert T. Burich was the lead vote-getter with 408 votes.

He was followed by newcomer Stephen L. Bennefield; newcomer Kimberly A. Doss; incumbent Stephanie Williams-Sheffield; and Susan I. Leach, who lost her first bid for public office.

There were no candidates for council in the Republican primary.

Reached after the results came in Tuesday night, Burich didn’t have much to say.

“Thanks for giving me another four years,” said the 16-year incumbent. “I must be doing something right if they keep voting for me.”

Bennefield said he’s happy that hard work by his supporters paid off.

“I will now look at what hard issues are facing the city,” he said.

Sheffield said she wants to thank the constituents who voted her back onto council.

“I am pleased I decided to serve another four years for my community,” she said.

Leach said she also wishes to thank people who voted for her, and she doubts that she’ll try another run for public office.

Doss could not be reached Tuesday night.

The Farrell candidates said before the election that they will work on issues ranging from attracting businesses and jobs to crime to providing activities for young people.
