Background

Nancy Moore, director of bands at Howland High School, is retiring after a 35-year career as a teacher, 32 of them in Howland.

Education:

XShe graduated in 1970 from Howland, sixth in a class of 376, and graduated summa cum laude from Ohio University in 1974 with degrees in music therapy and music education.

Music career:

XShe did a music therapy internship at Fairhaven School in Niles, and student-taught at Euclid High School. Moore began her teaching career at Pymatuning Valley Junior High School in Andover and then taught band two years at Braden Junior High School in the Ashtabula Edgewood School District. She came to Howland in 1977.

XAt Howland, she taught band, choir and general music at every grade level; became assistant director of bands at the high school in 2001 and head director in 2002.

XMoore directed church choirs for 19 years at Ashtabula Lakeside Lutheran, Tod Avenue United Methodist in Warren, and Howland United Methodist.

Greatest accomplishment:

XMaking a difference in kids’ lives.
