NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. — A New Wilmington man has been charged with driving under the influence and other offenses in a May 9 accident in which a pedestrian was hit.

Michael A. Fleissner, 28, of Fayette New Wilmington Road was charged Monday, New Wilmington police said.

Police said Fleissner struck Andy E. Byler, 44, of Spring Hill Lane in Volant at about 7 p.m. on state Route 208 near Spring Hill.

Byler told police he was struck on the left arm by a southbound pickup truck that kept on going. The truck hit guardrails, too, dislodging pieces of the truck and blowing out a rear tire, Byler reported.

Police found the truck 20 minutes later about two miles away in a field. Fleissner was trying to change the tire. He denied hitting Byler, but police found damage to the truck consistent with what Byler described.

Fleissner also failed a field sobriety test and was taken to Jameson Hospital for blood-alcohol testing, police said.
