Boy, 13, seriously injured in crash


CHAMPION — A 13-year-old Middlefield boy was seriously injured in a two-car crash at 7:10 p.m. Monday at state Route 45 and Educational Highway. The victim, Brian Schultz, was flow to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. His condition was unknown.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said a vehicle southbound on Route 45, driven by Cody King, 17, of Warren, turned into the path of a northbound car while turning left onto Educational Highway. The northbound auto, driven by Jamie Schultz, 31, of Middlefield, hit the King auto. Brian was a front-seat passenger in the Schultz vehicle. Officers did not say whether or how the Schultzes are related. The drivers of both vehicles sustained non-life threatening injuries, as did a two-year-old in the back seat of the Schultz auto who was restrained by a child safety seat. The patrol said the drivers and the 13-year-old were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
