City man faces numerous charges for eluding cops during chase

YOUNGSTOWN — A 19-year-old city man is in Mahoning County Jail on $210,000 bond for a list of charges associated with leading police on a car chase.

Harold Shuler Jr., 19, of Ferndale Avenue appeared for a video arraignment today in Youngstown Municipal Court. He is charged with felonious assault on an officer and felony fleeing and eluding as well as misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest, obstruction of justice, driving under suspension and traffic violations.

According to police, officers began chasing Shuler just before 1:30 a.m. today on the city’s South Side. The chase covered several streets with Shuler, reportedly, sometimes aiming the black Chevrolet Lumina he was driving at pursuing officers.

The car slowed down while turning onto Judson Avenue and a passenger jumped out surrendering to police. Shuler, reports said, eventually jumped out of the car as well, while the car was still in motion, and tried to run. He was tackled and arrested a short time later. The passenger was not arrested.
