Maennerchor member elected to NAGSS office


YOUNGSTOWN — The North American German Singing Societies elected Wolfgang Wengler, president of Youngstown Maennerchor Choir, to a second three-year term as keeper of the archives during the May delegate convention in Pittsburgh.

Wengler will have charge of the archives of the organization’s 151-year history. He has served 37 years as an officer of the Ohio German Singing Societies, six years as its president. He is a past president and officer of Youngstown Maennerchor, 831 Mahoning Ave., which was established in 1863.

Wengler has compiled a history of the National Singing Societies, covering such areas as Erie, Pa., New Orleans and Chicago, and including San Antonio, where the next song festival will be in April 2010.
