Lower leads Ursuline past Magnificat, 10-0


BOARDMAN — Casey Lower pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and registered her 20th win of the season, to lead the Ursuline High softball team Saturday to a 10-0 win over Rocky River Magnificat in a regular-season game at the Field of dreams.

Lower (20-5) has accounted for all but one of Ursuline’s decisions this season. The Irish are 21-5.

Kelli Kolenich had a double, single and three RBIs and Kasey Foley two singles and two RBIs to also spark Ursuline, while Krista Byers had three singles.

Mooney 5, Ashtabula Lakeside 4

BOARDMAN — Christina Hrehor had three hits while Jamie Clausen had two hits and two RBIs for the Cardinals (17-7) at the Fields of Dreams.

Kelcie Herberger’s two hits included a double.

Winning pitcher Cadi Sheffler relieved starter Clausen and stuck out four.

Christina Hutchinson doubled for Lakeside (8-9).

Boardman 3, Canton McKinley 0

CANTON — Sophomore Alex DiDomenico pitched her third no-hitter of the season, striking out 13 to lift the Spartans (19-6, 7-5) in a Federal League game.

Julie Olbrych led Boardman with two hits and Jamie Massaro collected two RBIs to aid in the victory.

Canton GlenOak 5, Fitch 2

AUSTINTOWN — Katie O’Loughlin’s two hits included a double.

Stephanie Berdis also had two hits while Carly Ortz drove in a run.

Poland 2, Massillon Perry 0

MASSILLON — Jenna Modic’s RBI single scored sophomore Adrienne Sikora with Poland’s first run in the third inning, then freshman Mara Bobby scored on an overthrow during a double steal in the sixth inning.

Bobby was a pinch-runner for Nicole White, a junior who had a hit to get on base.

Erin Gabriel and Chelsea McCree had two hits for the Bulldogs (22-3).

Gabriel, a freshman, had 10 strikeouts.
