NEW CASTLE, Pa. — The Glenn Miller Orchestra will perform at Scottish Rite Cathedral, 110 E. Lincoln Ave., at 8 p.m. May 29 to celebrate the auditorium’s acceptance into the National Registry of Historic Places.

The Cathedral organist will play the grand pipe organ from 7 to 8 p.m. as guests arrive, and the foyer will be open to dancing during the Glenn Miller performance.

Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. All seats are general admission. A pre-concert reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., featuring Pittsburgh-based Swing band, Neon Swing X-perience, as well as period dancers from the ’20s performing dances such as the Swing, the Charleston and the Fox Trot. Pristine period automobiles will be on site, as well as Cathedral artifacts from the era. Tickets for the reception portion of the evening are $25.

The Drifters, the Tokens star in doo-wop concert

KENT — Western Reserve PBS (formerly PBS 45/49) will host its Doo Wop Celebration III concert May 30 at Kent Stage. Gene Chandler, Charlie Thomas’ the Drifters and the Tokens — the groups who made famous the songs “Duke of Earl,” “Under the Boardwalk” and “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” famous — are the featured acts.

There will be two performances, 4 and 8 p.m. Tickets are $35 and are available by calling (800) 554-4549 or online at westernreservepbs.org.

The annual concert, which benefits Western Reserve PBS, sold out the last two years.

“In a venue that holds just 640 people, everyone gets a great seat at the Kent Stage,” said Lisa Martinez, vice president of marketing and development at Western Reserve PBS. “This year, we’re presenting three of the best doo-wop acts of all time for a very affordable ticket price.”

Digital art, new media festival at museum

YOUNGSTOWN — The McDonough Museum of Art’s “Rust Fest” exhibition will open June 13 and run through July 24. It will feature digital arts and new media work submitted by graduate students from eight universities across the United States.

“Rust Fest” will feature screen-based work in all forms, from animation to computer games and novel visualization environments.

Opening day will include a performance piece by Leslie Raymond and Jason Jay Stevens of the University of Texas.

The exhibition is free.
