Division I
CANTON — Robert Salcedo of Boardman won the Division I singles championship to continue unbeaten and advance into next week’s district meet.
Salcedo, a senior, defeated Corbin Wandling of Akron Hoban in a semifinal, 6-2, 6-2, and then beat Nathan Kanam of Massillon Jackson in the final, 6-2, 6-4.
The semifinal was held at Weiss Park, and the final had just begun at Weiss Park with Salcedo leading, 2-0, before rain hit to force the match indoors at the Hall of Fame courts.
Salcedo (21-0), who now has won six post-season matches this year, will compete in the district meet set at Oberlin College on Friday and Saturday.
The top six district finishers will qualify for the state meet set May 29-30 in Columbus.
Salcedo, coached by Jeff Hammerton, has been a state qualifier in doubles the previous three years.
