Don’t wait till it’s too late

Don’t wait till it’s too late

EDITOR:

I saw a comic strip called “Mutts” in a Florida paper that had Shelter Stories. In the first frame a dog named Fannie is saying “My family lost its home to foreclosure”. In the second frame, Fannie is there saying “They had to leave everything behind”. In the final frame, Fannie’s head is bowed as she repeats, “Everything”.

That sad event is happening all over this country. My husband and I just took in a foster dog whose family lost its home. The family took the dog to Angels for Animals. We have taken in fosters and adopted previously from Angels. Abby now has a permanent home with us. She was well cared for by her previous family and has been eagerly learning new tricks and adjusting to life with our other dogs.

The reason I am writing this letter is to ask anyone who can help to do so. Please, don’t sit on the sidelines if you think an animal is being left behind, hungry, in need of medical care or a new home. Do something. Don’t let your neighbors wonder what they’ll do with this beloved member of their family — now that the family’s status is unsure. Offer to help — before you’re asked. For those of you in that position, tell people the situation you’re in and don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Be an advocate for an animal who doesn’t have a voice.
