Mill Creek Park to close roads for race
CANFIELDSEmDThree roads in Mill Creek Park will be closed for the YMCA Memorial 5K race on May 23 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Closed will be East Glacier Drive, Memorial Hill Drive and West Glacier Drive.
Access to Fellows Riverside Gardens during the race will be from McKinley Avenue only.

The United Auto Racing Club National Sprint Car Series will bring their brand of non-winged racing to Mercer Raceway Park for the first time ever in the finale of the Eastern Tour Pennsylvania Swing.

Regal Gal Stakes
MIAMI, Fla. — Garter Belt held off Brinca from start to finish Saturday to win the $55,000 Regal Gal Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Calder Race Course.
In the co-featured $50,000 Big Bubble Stakes for older horses going 1 1-16th miles, Mambo Meister held off Imawildandcrazyguy, who came from last to finish second with Too Good third.
The field was reduced from 11 to six after the race was switched from the grass to dirt.
Garter Belt, the odds-on favorite ridden by Jermaine Bridgmohan, covered a mile and 70 yards in 1:46.40 to win the Regal Gal.
Cornell beats Princeton
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Cornell beat Princeton 6-4 in men’s lacrosse Saturday to reach the semifinals of the NCAA tournament for the second time in three years.
Rocco Romero scored twice and Rob Pannell had three assists for Cornell in the quarterfinal at the Hofstra campus.
Cornell will next play May 23 in Foxborough, Mass., against the winner of today’s quarterfinal in Annapolis, Md., between Virginia and Johns Hopkins.
Cornell (12-3) jumped ahead 5-1 at halftime. Tommy Davis and Chris McBride scored to draw Princeton within two goals entering the last quarter for Princeton (13-3).
Memorial service set
TULSA, Okla. — A public memorial service has been scheduled for former Oklahoma basketball great and jazz musician Wayman Tisdale.
According to the Web site of Biglow Funeral Directors, Tisdale’s service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the BOK Center in Tisdale’s hometown of Tulsa. Tisdale’s band will play selections starting a half-hour before the service begins.
The 44-year-old Tisdale was a three-time All-American for Oklahoma in the mid-80s before playing 12 seasons in the NBA with Indiana, Phoenix and Sacramento.
Racing days reduced
INGLEWOOD, Calif. — Hollywood Park has received permission to cut its racing schedule to four days a week through June 14.
The California Horse Racing Board approved the change that drops Wednesday racing during the current meet. There will be racing Thursdays through Sundays, except for a special Memorial Day program May 25. Track president Jack Liebau said a tough economy has meant fewer horses available to race.

Barcelona takes title
MADRID — Barcelona has won the Spanish soccer league title for the first time in three years.
Barcelona clinched the crown Saturday when Real Madrid lost 3-2 at Villarreal. Barcelona has 86 points with three games left. Madrid has 78 with two to play.
This was the 19th title for Barcelona, which completed its first domestic double in 11 years. The team won the Copa del Rey last Wednesday.
Barcelona is managed by Pep Guardiola, the club’s former midfielder who is in his first season coaching the team.
Giro d’Italia
BERGAMO, Italy — Lance Armstrong and his teammates have not faded away. Only their jerseys have.
After losing time all week in climbs and steep descents, Armstrong stayed with the chasing pack on a short uphill stretch in the eighth stage of at the Giro d’Italia on Saturday and teammates Levi Leipheimer and Chris Horner attacked.
For the second consecutive day, eight of the nine Astana riders protested not being paid for two months by wearing shirts with the names of sponsors faded.
Man United wins 3rd straight Premier title
LONDON — Manchester United tied Arsenal 0-0 Saturday to capture their third consecutive Premier League title and match Liverpool’s mark of 18 league championships.
In a poorly played game between two of England’s glamour clubs, United won their 11th league title in 17 seasons. All came under manager Alex Ferguson, who has major 25 trophies in his 23 years at Old Trafford.
“It makes you want to go on for ever,” said the 67-year-old Ferguson, who already has put off retirement once.
Boxing draw
ROME — Giacobbe Fragomeni retained his WBC cruiserweight title Saturday night, earning a draw with Krzysztof Wlodarczyk in his first defense.
Judge Richard James Davies scored the bout 116-112 for Fragomeni, Robin Dolpierre had it 114-113 for Wlodarczyk, and Esa Lehtosaari scored it a 114-114 draw.
