Toddler rescued from blaze
YOUNGSTOWN — A passerby rushed into a burning house on Boston Avenue Friday afternoon and put out a fire that a 1-year-old boy started by spilling a gas can near a kitchen stove.
John Kimbrough of East Boston Avenue was driving past his neighbor’s house at 360 East Boston Avenue when he noticed the flames, the Youngstown Fire Department reported.
Kimbrough ingested a large amount of smoke while fighting the fire, but refused medical treatment.
The boy’s mother, Joanna Brown, said her son had carried the gas can from the side door landing into the kitchen and spilled some gasoline near the stove, which was being used at the time. The fumes ignited the floor in front of the stove, the fire department reported.
The mother and child were not injured in the 3:52 p.m. fire, which caused about an estimated $300 damage, a fire department report states.
Fire officials could not be reached to determine what Kimbrough used to put out the fire.
