Tennis boys advance to semis
BOARDMAN — Quarterfinal matches unfinished from Wednesday’s action were completed at the Division II boys tennis sectional tournament on Friday.
In action at the Boardman High School courts, No 1 seed Brad Brocker of Poland defeated Jacob Seckman Ravenna 6-0, 6-0, advancing to one of today’s semifinals and qualifying for next week’s district tournament in Canton.
Also, No. 2 seed Michael Fredericka of Warren JFK defeated Michael Rotar of Cardinal Mooney, 6-0, 6-0, to advance to the semifinals.
Fredericka will face No. 3 seed Luka Spahija of Cardinal Mooney, who advanced on Wednesday.
Also on Friday Matt Higham of Cardinal Mooney defeated Chance Young of West Branch, 7-5, 1-6, 6-4, to advance.
Higham will meet Brocker in the other semifinal.
Doubles matches were completed on Wednesday, and will continue today with semifinals and finals.
The top four finishers in singles and doubles advance to the district.
The Division I sectional in Canton will conclude today with semifinals and finals matches.
