Rotary Club is sponsoring National Scrapbook Day

EAST PALESTINE — East Palestine Rotary Club will sponsor a National Scrapbook Day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at 30 N. Market St.

The $30 registration fee includes lunch, snacks, drinks and dinner. There will also be demonstrations, games and prizes.

Spaghetti dinner will raise funds for United Way

YOUNGSTOWN — The United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley will have a spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Hall.

Dinners will cost $7 each and will include meatballs, salad, rolls, cake and coffee. Catering is by Fusillo Catering. Carryout will be available.

The fundraiser is sponsored by ClearChannel Radio and Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home. A Chinese auction will feature a variety of gift baskets. All proceeds benefit the United Way.

Tickets can be purchased at the door.

Spaghetti dinner Sunday

YOUNGSTOWN — Capt. Charles M. Marino Post 3, Italian-American War Veterans, 113 S. Meridian Road, will serve spaghetti dinners from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The cost is $6 for adults and $3.50 for children 6 to 10. Those under 6 may eat for free. Carryouts also will be available; containers can be purchased or patrons may provide their own.

Wine taste, raffle at Rodef Sholom

YOUNGSTOWN — Congregation Rodef Sholom, 1119 Elm St., will sponsor a raffle on June 18 as its major fundraiser for the year.

The event will begin with appetizers and wine tasting at 6:30 p.m., followed by a light deli supper at 7. Entertainment will be Stan Miller, jazz saxophonist.

Admission is $100. Tickets will be available in advance at the temple office or at the door on event night. Those attending will have a chance to win cash prizes of $5,000, $2,000 or $1,000 in additional to other prizes.

Antiques to be appraised

MERCER — A Cruise In and Antique Appraisal is planned from 1-4 p.m. May 30 at McCandless Ford, 8416 Sharon-Mercer Road.

Among the features will be a 50-50 drawing, Chinese auction, raffle, music and food. Antique appraisals will be done by antique dealer Terry Reeher. Admission is free, and appraisals are three items for $5.

All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society’s 24-hour Relay For Life at Mercer High School at 9 a.m. June 20.

Deadline announced for memorial bricks

MERCER, Pa. — Mercer County Courthouse Memorial and Honor Garden Committee is announcing that May 31 will be the deadline for memorial or honorary bricks to be submitted for placement this spring in the garden. Orders received after that date will be placed in the fall.

Bricks can be ordered for $50 plus $3 tax, Each brick may have three rows of print with 17 letters per line. Proceeds from the sale of bricks will be used to maintain the gardens.

Party on the Pond planned near IHM Parish Center

AUSTINTOWN — Immaculate Heart of Mary Church will have a “Party on the Pond” from 2-4 p.m. May 31 in celebration of the completion of the Austintown Township Detention Pond, near the IHM Parish Center. This is the parish’s Springfest Celebration, sponsored by the Family Life Committee.

The Diocese of Youngstown donated the land for the township-church venture, which was initiated to help alleviate flooding in nearby neighborhoods.

The public is invited to join in the family-oriented celebration, where there will be plenty of food and a cookout, music and a 50-50 raffle. The trustees and a church representative will offer a few comments to kick off the party.

Vegetarian summerfest at college campus

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — The 2009 Vegetarian Summerfest will be July 8-12 at the Conference Center on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.

The 35th annual conference of the North American Vegetarian Society will feature classes, cuisine, conversation and community for enlightened eaters. There will be dozens of knowledgeable speakers, cutting-edge educational sessions, natural food vegan meals, music, dancing and games.

Chess tournament open

YOUNGSTOWN — Warriors Inc. will host a community chess tournament, directed by Progress With Chess, June 20 at John Knox Presbyterian Church, 1806 Market St.

All ages and abilities are welcome. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m., and on-site registration will be from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Entry fee is $12 if received by June 10 and $20 after that

Hello Brothers Club plans golf scramble

HUBBARD — The Hello Brothers Club, a charitable, nonprofit organization devoted to serving the youth of the area, will host a golf scramble June 6 at Doughton Golf Course.

The cost is $50 per person and includes golf, cart, sandwiches, beverages and dinner. There will be $20 team skins and a 50-50 drawing.

YOUNGSTOWN — Frank Bellamy, FISH Samaritan House board member, is requesting donations of used computer equipment to be made available to needy families.

Masons confer degree

SALEM — Omega Council of York Rite Masonry met for an annual convocation of the Super Excellent Master Degree on April 24 at the Masonic Building. State officers were in attendance. Clyde Stratman presided as the degree was conferred on Robert Seekley.

A donation was made to the Grand Council for diabetic camp scholarships. The camps teach children with diabetes how to live normal lives. Luncheon was provided by the ladies auxiliary.
