Boardman boys capture Federal League meet


CANTON — Boardman High boys combined to win eight events at Friday’s Federal League track meet at GlenOak High.

The Spartan won the event with 153 points, with GlenOak second at 123.5. Fitch scored 47 points for seventh place.

Caleb Mathews won three events — 300 hurdles (38.33), long jump (21-7) and 110 hurdles (14.74).

Corey Linsley won twice — the discus (165-5) and shot put (59-8).

Other Spartan winners were Sam Deskin in the 1600 (4:20.19), Joe Bialik in the pole vault (13-9) and Chase Hammond in the high jump (6-6).

In the girls meet, Boardman finished third with 105.5 points. GlenOak won with 141 points, followed by North Canton Hoover with 132.

Boardman’s top finisher was Nicole Biagetti in the long jump (17).

Fitch finished fifth with 75 points. Winners for the Falcons were Ali Tolich in discus (136-7), Jen Shiley in the 400 (58-77) and the 4x400 relay team of Taylor Entzi, Lindsay Koontz, Shiley and Kaity Shiley (4:03.56).

HANOVERTON — After corrected scores, United won both the boys and girls portion of Thursday’s Inter Tri-County League Tier One track meet.

United’s boys had 143 points to runner-up East Palestine’s 100, while United girls won with 146 points. Mineral Ridge was runner-up with 115. South Range’s John Seaver won the shot put with a throw of 52-0, while United’s Ethan Wutrick was second with 51-101‚Ñ4.

Wutrick’s 151-8 gave him the best discus throw, followed by 138-2 by Springfield’s Dave Munholland. The girls shot put winner was United’s Victoria Bates with 38-63‚Ñ4, just ahead of South Range’s Jaclyn Weaver (37-10).
