1 arrested, 1 injured in drug raid
YOUNGSTOWN — One man is in Mahoning County Jail and another is in the hospital after a drug raid on the city’s South Side.
Officers used a search warrant at 436 W. LaClede Ave. just before 6 p.m. Thursday and arrested Terence Sly, 23, of Boston Avenue for trafficking in drugs. He is in the jail in lieu of a $5,000 bond.
According to reports, officers arrived at the house, announced police presence and noticed another 23-year-old man break a kitchen window and drop a bag out. The man, who has not yet been charged, severely cut his arm when breaking the window.
Sly and the man, now with bone visible through the cuts on his arm, came out of the house through a side door. Reports said Sly noticed police outside the door and dropped another bag just inside the door before running.
Police caught up with Sly at the rear of a neighboring house, where he was arrested.
The other man in the house collapsed outside the side door in pain. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, but officers found marijuana and a $20 bill used in an undercover drug buy in his pockets before he was taken to the hospital.
According to police, the bag dropped outside the broken window by the injured man contained 57 packaged-for-sale bags of crack cocaine. He was not immediately charged because of his injury but will likely be charged with trafficking in cocaine and possession of marijuana.
The bag Sly dropped before running from officers, reports said, contained 26 packaged-for-sale bags of crack cocaine and another large bag of crack cocaine.
Officers also discovered two fully loaded handguns, a digital scale with cocaine residue and a clear plastic bag containing unidentified pills in the living room, reports said.
