Boy accused of threats had ammo

NORWALK, Ohio (AP) — A 13-year-old Ohio runaway accused of making threats against teachers and classmates in his journal had two rifles and 400 rounds of ammunition when he was taken into custody while in possession of a stolen pickup truck in Tennessee, authorities said Thursday.

The boy was taken into custody without incident Wednesday night in Dayton, Tenn., after setting off a daylong nationwide search that began in Norwalk, Ohio, about 50 miles west of Cleveland.

The boy told Dayton police that a .22-caliber rifle in the vehicle was his and a second rifle was in the truck when he drove off. The vehicle description matched a white 2003 Chevy pickup stolen from a neighbor of the boy, and the identification number indicated it had been stolen, according to police.

Officers investigating a missing-person report filed by the boy’s parents found a journal with the names of 33 classmates and teachers who were indirectly threatened, although the alleged threats weren’t specific.

Norwalk Catholic School, where the boy is a student, canceled Wednesday classes as a precaution. Classes resumed Thursday.
