Ursuline, Campbell earn Div. III victories
STRUTHERS — Shawn Roman pitched a three-hitter with seven strikeouts and also had two singles to lead Ursuline to a 13-1 victory over Mineral Ridge in a Division III sectional baseball tournament game on Tuesday at Cene Park.
Cory Coffey hit a three-run double to also pace the Irish, while Wade Daniels added a double and single.
Ursuline advanced to play Garfield Heights Trinity in a semifinal next Tuesday at Euclid at 6:30 p.m.
Campbell 4, East Palestine 3
CAMPBELL — Raul Pizzaro (4-1) pitched an eight-hitter with nine strikeouts and also hit three singles and drove in two runs to lead Campbell in a Division III sectional final at Roosevelt Park.
Josh Gore hit a solo home run while Amir Hassan added two singles for the Red Devils (12-4), who advanced to a district semifinal against Girard Tuesday.
Girard 9, LaBrae 1
GIRARD — Brian Kirkpatrick pitched a five-hitter with four strikeouts while Tallen Birmingham had a triple and double with four RBIs to pace Girard.
Dante DelBene had a two-run single for Girard (13-5) while Michael Florabit and Michael Gainey each added two singles.
Todd Collins had a double and single for LaBrae (4-11).
South Range 12, Crestview 8
COLUMBIANA — Andy Lacefield and Mike Rohan each had three hits, while Vince Miller and Chris Gause had two hits apiece for South Range (13-10) in a Div. III sectional final.
South Range had 17 hits to advance to next Tuesday’s district semifinal at Cene Park.
Corey Hill had three hits, including a double, while Carter Hill had two hits and three RBIs for Crestview.
Division IV
McDONALD — Zach Puntel had a five-inning no-hitter that included 14 strikeouts as McDonald defeated Lordstown, 14-1, in a sectional semifinal.
Anthony Raschilla had three RBIs on three hits, including a double, while Mike Gatta, Alex Baker and Mike Thomas had two hits apiece for the Blue Devils (14-2), who play host to JFK today at 4:30 p.m.
JFK 10, Youngstown Christian 0
WARREN — Senior Nick Brown had a five-inning two-hitter which included five strikeouts and two walks for JFK (8-11).
Lowellville 11, Jackson-Milton 1
STRUTHERS — Tony Schialdone had a five-inning two-hitter which included five strikeouts for Lowellville.
Ryan Whinery, Drew Skelley and Zack Harkleroad had two hits for the Rockets (15-8-1), who play at Mathews today at 4:30 p.m. in a sectional final.
Hitting doubles for Lowellville were Anthony Alfano and Louie Lebron, while Dante Abbas tripled.
Jeff Korash had Zach Nagy each had a single for the only hits for Jackson-Milton.
Western Reserve 10, Southern 0
BERLIN CENTER — Bob Banks pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts for Western Reserve.
Chris Kalbfell had a double, single and four RBIs and John Gora a double, single and three RBIs to also lead the Blue Devils.
Eric Kennehan and Adam Smith each added two singles for Western Reserve, which will play Springfield today in a sectional final.
Regular season
CRESTWOOD — Anthony Pennington pitched a nine-hittter and also slammed a triple, double and single and drove in three runs to lead Southeast (7-15, 2-9) over Crestwood, 9-7, in a Portage Trail Conference game.
Nick Hopkins added two doubles and three RBIs for Southeast.
Eric Stuart hit two homers and drove in three runs to lead Crestwood (9-8, 6-5).
Mathews 2, Southington 0
VIENNA — Collin Bowser had two hits, four stolen bases and pitched a 10-strikeout, three-hit shutout for the Mustangs (17-2, 11-1 Northeastern Athletic Conference).
Also for Mathews Jake Swank homered and finished with two RBIs.
