Shepherd of the Valley, Howland, has Memorial Day Service on May 21

HOWLAND — Shepherd of the Valley, 4100 North River Road, will have a Memorial Day service at 3:30 p.m. May 21.

The Trumbull County American Legion Honor Guard will post the colors, Col. Robert Mangold, U.S. Army (Ret.) will conduct “The Four Chaplains” service. The four chaplains — Lt. George L. Fox, Lt. Alexander D. Goode, Lt. John P. Washington and Lt. Clark V. Poling — gave their life jackets to four others when their ship, the USTA Dorchester, sank after being torpedoed by a German submarine. They were last seen linked arm in arm, when their ship sank.
