Rise-N-Shoot hoops program underway

YOUNGSTOWN — Right when you thought the NBA was the only organized basketball remaining on the sports calendar, along comes the local Flying High program to prove you wrong.

The Rise-N-Shoot Program, working as a partnership of the Flying High, Inc.’s League of Champions and the Youngstown City Schools, is designed for players age 13-17.

Players up to age 19 can participate if they are still attending high school, however.

The program stresses that it is not a league.

Rather it’s designed to provide “young people with positive activity through the game,” according to the organization’s press release.

Teams filled their rosters on a draft day and games will be played at East High School.

Games are scheduled on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. through June 6.

The press release continues that the program “helps build character through the guidance of mentorship provided by the staff of Flying High, coaches/mentors and guest speakers.”

The organization invites parents and friends of the players to all the games.

Flying High, Inc. has operated as a non-profit organization since 1994.
