YOUNGSTOWN — Police said someone tore an alarm system from the wall of a house in the 2200 block of Goleta Avenue during a burglary.
The burglary went undiscovered for several days, as the resident told police she was out of town since Thursday.
Police were called to the home around noon Tuesday to investigate the break-in and found that a window in a door was broken to gain entry.
Once inside, the burglar or burglars ripped an alarm box from an interior wall and destroyed a second alarm box in the basement.
The entire interior of the house was ransacked, police said. The resident reported that some pearls and gold chains with a value of $5,000 were taken.
The resident of an apartment in the 600 block of Griffith Street told police that someone broke into his residence between 2 and 4 p.m. Thursday when no one was home.
He didn’t report the burglary until 8 p.m. Monday.
Police said entry was gained by pushing in a window air-conditioning unit.
A 27-inch television set with an exterior sound system, $300 cash, a computer tower, three pairs of prescription eyeglasses and about 10 bottles of prescription medications were taken.
