Boardman’s Salcedo wins three matches


CANTON — Boardman High’s Robert Salcedo won three matches on Tuesday during the Division I sectional boys tennis tournament at Weis Park.

The Boardman doubles team of Greg Ferenchak and Joe Hosa also won three matches.

In singles, Salcedo defeated Akron Kenmore’s Brandon Hall 6-0, 6-0; Barberton’s Cory Huff 6-0, 6-0, and Akron Ellet’s Krislian Uzelac 6-0, 6-1.

Fitch’s Jeff Herington defeated Canton Timken’s David Dejarnett 6-1, 6-1, before falling to Louisville’s Eric Gearhart 6-0, 6-0.

Fitch’s Alex Henry lost to Wooster’s Patrick McCory 6-3, 6-3, while Fitch’s Devan Patel lost to Louisville’s Matt Kelly 6-0, 6-0.

Canfield’s Peter Nemes split two matches, defeating Timken’s Joscelynn 6-0, 6-0, before losing to Akron Hoban’s Corban Wandling 6-0, 6-1.

Canfield’s Ryan Sankovic defeated Hoban’s Pat Kramer 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, before falling to North Canton Hoover’s Nate Fockler 6-2, 6-4. Another Cardinal, Mark Dalvin, split, ousting Hoban’s Alec Droba 6-4, 6-3, before losing to Hoover’s Jon Paasch 6-0, 6-1.

Boardman’s Kevin O’Neil defeated Alliance’s Danny Salle 6-0, 6-1, before falling to Green’s Mitch Plum 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, the Spartans team of Ferenchak and Hosa posted wins against Massillon Perry, Ellet and Akron Garfield.

Fitch’s team of Lou Bartlo and John Phan lost to Green while Canfield’s Brad Bennett and Nick Hardy team defeated Kenmore before losing to Hoover.
