York Rite honors member for decade of support

YOUNGSTOWN — During a meeting on May 4 at the Masonic Temple, the Grand Council of Royal and Select Masons of Ohio, Buechner Council 107, honored Charles H. Houck Sr. as its “Man of the Year” for more than a decade of faithful support.

Raised in Poland Lodge 766 in 1966, Houck served as master in 1992. In 1976 he was a member of the Bicentennial Class of the Scottish Rite 32nd Degree Masons and a member of Shannon Council 28 Knight Masons of Ireland.

In York Rite Masonry, Houck is a past high priest of Ashlar Chapter 213, past illustrious master of Buechner Council, past commander of Niles commandery 79, and a dual member of St. Johns Commandery 20. He served as deputy division commander of the 9th Division from 1990 to1992. The 2009 York Rite Spring Festival was named in his honor.

Houck served with the Marine Corps in the Korean War, and retired from the Youngstown City School System in 1991 after 38 years of service. He is also retired from Western Reserve Fire District, Poland Fire Department, where he served 40 years as a volunteer fireman and fire prevention officer, and was president of the Firemen’s Association.

Houck and his wife, Judy, are the parents of Charles II, Michelle, Eric and Becky.
