Northside Weed & Seed offering evening classes to youths

STAFF REPORT

YOUNGSTOWN — The Northside Weed & Seed organization is working to make a difference with 13 youths from the target area by having photography, Web design and mentoring classes three nights a week.

The six-week course, which began in April and ends later this month, runs every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The Tuesday and Wednesday classes are from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Weed and Seed offices, 976 Martin Luther King Blvd. (Arlington Heights). The youths learn about photography on Tuesdays and Web design on Wednesdays.

On Thursday, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. the youth participate in a mentoring program at Heart Reach Ministries, the former St. Edward School building, 211 Redondo Road. “These classes are opening new doors for these youth,” said Terri Bryant, Youngstown Northside Weed & Seed coordinator.

Weed & Seed is a federally funded program that aims to reduce violent crime, drug abuse and gang activity in a target area. The second part of the program provides community-based services.
