Local car sales sluggish

New-vehicle sales in the Mahoning Valley continued to be sluggish in April.

Dealers in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties sold 1,527 vehicles last month, which was 43 percent lower than the 2,683 sold in April 2008.

Last month’s total also was down from the month before. Dealers sold 1,645 vehicles in March.

Bob and Chuck Eddy Chrysler Dodge Jeep in Austintown was the area’s top-selling dealer last month with 86 sales.

The Chevrolet Cobalt and Chevrolet Malibu tied for the best-selling vehicles last month at 80.

Used-vehicle sales also were down last month.

Area dealers sold 3,495 used vehicles, which was 15 percent lower than the 4,104 that were sold in April 2008.

Greenwood Chevrolet Hummer in Austintown was the leading used-vehicle dealer with 93 sales.

The top-selling used vehicles last month were the Chevrolet Impala and Chevrolet Cavalier, both with 81.
