Doctor to stand trial in sex-abuse case
BUTLER, Pa. (AP) — A western Pennsylvania physician accused of molesting two boys when he was a Boy Scout leader in the early 1990s has been ordered to stand trial.
Defense attorney David DeFazio previously said that Dr. David Evanko “vehemently” denies the charges. At Monday’s preliminary hearing, he challenged the accusers’ credibility by attacking their inability to pin down specific dates for acts they said Evanko committed.
The accusers are brothers who are now 31 and 28. They testified Monday that Evanko plied them with alcohol and gay porn movies and then sexually abused them in various locations from 1990 through 1993.
Evanko formerly led Scout Troop 10 in Butler, about 30 miles north of Pittsburgh. He is no longer involved with the Boy Scouts.
