Struthers water vote

STRUTHERS — City council will have a meeting at 11 a.m. today at the Municipal Building, 6 Elm St., to vote on the third reading of a resolution authorizing a cooperative agreement between the city and the Ohio Water Development Authority for a solids-handling project at the waste-treatment plant.

Any measure not passed as an emergency requires three readings for passage.

Mayor Terry Stocker, who called the meeting, said that during the replacement of the plant belt press, a temporary sludge belt press was mobilized to maintain the sludge operation.

Stocker said the temporary press costs about $3,000 a day, and if the project is delayed, the city would be liable for all additional operational costs incurred by W.E. Downie & Co., which is supplying the temporary press.

Old-medicine disposal

BOARDMAN — Area seniors and their families may drop off their old or expired medications from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 16 at the township government center, Market Street.

The event, Operation Medicine Cabinet, is sponsored by Home Instead Senior Care and supported by township police. Officers will collect and oversee disposal of all medications collected.

The program is a way to help protect seniors from accidentally using expired medications as well as safeguarding them from theft from their homes. It also can help protect the environment and prevent the drugs from entering the public water supply through toilet flushing.
