Mother charged over phony ad on Craigslist

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (AP) — A dispute between two 9-year-old girls in New York has led to criminal charges against one of their mothers after police say she posted a Craigslist ad seeking sex and directed respondents to call the other mother.

Police say Margery Tannenbaum of Hauppauge on Long Island was cited for aggravated harassment after posting an online classified ad purporting to be from a woman seeking sex with men.

Tannenbaum reportedly gave out the phone number of the mother of her daughter’s rival to anyone who replied by e-mail.

Tannenbaum did not answer her door Friday, and her attorney did not respond to telephone calls seeking comment.

Last year a jury convicted a Missouri mother for her role in a My-Space hoax that led to a 13-year-old committing suicide. She is to be sentenced May 18 and faces up to three years in prison.
