Conneaut seeks donors to replace boardwalk
CONNEAUT LAKE, Pa. — The replacement of the 650-foot waterfront boardwalk at Conneaut Lake Park began Saturday.
The new boardwalk will be made of composite materials, and the lights will be LED or solar fixtures.
The benches will be made of recycled, low-maintenance composite materials.
The park’s trustees have established the Board by Board campaign to solicit donations for the project.
Each board will cost $100 and the name of the donor will be laser-engraved into the decking.
Donations also being accepted for the benches and ramps.
Donations may be deposited at any Mercer County State Bank or dropped off at the Conneaut Lake Park office or the Crawford County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Make checks payable to Conneaut Lake Park – Boardwalk.
After having been closed for the past two years, the park will open for the season on Memorial Day weekend.
Big band dinner-show at Lucianno’s hall
AUSTINTOWN — Ron Chick’s Friends All Star Alumni Big Band will have a dinner show and dance May 17 at Lucianno’s Banquet Center, Wedgewood Plaza, at the intersection of Raccoon and New roads.
The show, “A Tribute to Frank and Friends,” will include vocalist Bobby Remp with a guest appearance by Rachell Joy.
Doors open at 5 p.m., dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. and concert and dancing will be at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $35 per person (with dinner) and $23 (without dinner) and include tax and tip. Tables of eight and 10 are available.
The 22-piece band plays the music of Count Basie, Stan Kenton, Maynard Ferguson, Buddy Rich, Frank Sinatra, Natalie Cole and more.
The band members are alumni from Maynard Ferguson, Buddy Rich, Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Jimmy Dorsey, The Navy Band of Washington, Artie Shaw and Gene Krupa.
Hoyt plans festival to raise funds for museum
NEW CASTLE, Pa. — The Hoyt Institute of Fine Art’s annual Wine Festival will be Saturday.
Featuring the wines of Argentina, Australia, Chile, South Africa and the California valleys, the museum’s annual fundraiser explores the flavors of the New World with pairings of wines and hors d’oeuvres.
Food will include a ravioli station manned by a chef, gourmet panini bar, dessert bar, and an assortment of spreads, crackers and cheeses.
There will also be a silent auction and raffles that will include an original watercolor by regional artist Thomas G. McNickle valued at $2,600.

Art gallery is holding photo exhibition
WARREN — Trumbull Art Gallery has established a juried photography competition for local amateur and professional photographers.
An exhibition of the entries, titled “Photo 2009,” will be on display in the main gallery at TAG, 198 E. Market St., today through June 7.
This year’s judge is Richard Mitchell, professor emeritus of photography at Youngstown State University.
