YOUNGSTOWN — A 42-year-old city woman has been sentenced to three years in prison for stealing $52,400 from a 55-year-old disabled Boardman man, for whom she was a caregiver.
Shelly Mastropietro, of Cambridge Avenue, drew the prison time Friday from Judge James C. Evans of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
Judge Evans also ordered her to make full restitution by the end of her post-release supervision, which could last three to five years.
Mastropietro, who was arrested last September, pleaded guilty to misuse of a credit card, receiving stolen property and forgery.
Mastropietro, who had the Boardman man’s personal identification number, would repeatedly use his debit card to withdraw and pocket his money, township police said.
She would intercept the victim’s bank statements from his mail so he wouldn’t notice the withdrawals, police said.
The victim’s bank alerted him to the unusual activity, and he called police.
Mastropietro was also accused of taking two checks from the victim, writing them out to cash and cashing them.
