Awaiting coroner’s ruling in deaths of couple
POLAND — The official causes of death in an apparent murder-suicide of a township couple are still pending by the Mahoning County coroner’s office.
The bodies of William and Kathleen Smith, both 56, were found Wednesday evening in the Stymie Road home. The coroner’s office called it a shooting.
The couple’s daughter, who discovered the bodies, told a Mahoning County 911 dispatcher that she believed her father killed her mother and then himself.
The Smiths’ other child, a son, James, was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1999 in Hubbard. He was 24.
Postage price increase
YOUNGSTOWN — The cost of a single first-class stamp will increase from 42 cents to 44 cents effective Monday.
The U.S. Postal Service says it’s part of an annual price scale adjustment.
In 2006, Congress signed the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act into law, ensuring a cap on the rate in which postage can be adjusted.
The postal laws divided the office into two sections, mailing and shipping. The shipping side had rate adjustments in January.
