Cause of death remains pending in two Poland shootings

POLAND — The official cause of death in an apparent murder-suicide of a township couple is still pending by the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office.

The bodies of William and Kathleen Smith, both 56, were found Wednesday evening in the Stymie Road home. The coroner’s office called it a shooting incident.

The couple’s daughter, who discovered the bodies, told a Mahoning County 911 dispatcher that she believed her father killed her mother and then himself.

The Smiths’ other child, a son, James, was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1999 in Hubbard. He was 24.
