Verdict options
When the jurors in the Curtis Young trial get the case for deliberation, they will have these verdict options to consider:
Aggravated murder: This charge means the defendant killed purposely and with prior calculation and design. Penalties can be life in prison or death.
Murder: This charge refers to purposeful killing but without prior calculation and design. The penalty is 15 years to life in prison on each count.
Voluntary manslaughter: This means the defendant killed in a sudden fit of rage brought on by serious provocation from a victim. The is a first-degree felony punishable by three to 10 years in prison on each count.
Acquittal: If the jury finds the shooting was in self-defense.
