Work to resume after fire at GM
LORDSTOWN — Production was expected to resume today after a fire in the body shop of General Motors’ Lordstown plant.
A small fire broke out about 4 a.m. Wednesday. It is thought that equipment that dries cars in the body shop malfunctioned, but the cause of the fire is being investigated, said Chris Lee, a GM spokesman.
Nine workers in the body shop at the time were evacuated safely. Lee wasn’t sure how the fire was extinguished, but the Lordstown fire department responded.
Production was scaled back Wednesday, and workers were sent home early. Crews that normally work at night were asked to come to work Wednesday night, and normal car production was expected to resume today.
