SALEM — Salem Golf Club on Lincoln Avenue will be the setting on May 22 for the Teddy Bear Classic, a golf outing to support the 32nd Degree Masonic Children’s Learning Center, housed in the Youngstown Masonic Temple, 223 Wick Ave.

The schedule for the day includes registration at 10:30 a.m. and lunch at 11, with play beginning at noon with a shotgun start. Following the round of golf, dinner will be available beginning at 5:30. The festivities will conclude with the awarding of door prizes and a wide variety of prizes for those competing in the event.

The fee for the day is $125 per golfer or $500 per foursome. Nongolfers may purchase a luncheon ticket for $10, or dinner for $25.

Hole sponsors are being sought to help offset the expense of hosing the outing. The cost to sponsor a hole is $150. Platinum Underwriters, Gold Sponsors, and Silver Sponsors will be appreciated. Special incentives are being offered for underwriter packages.

For additional information or to make a reservation, contact George Roman at (330) 727-0945; Tina Thompson, (330) 757-7923; Gwen Darnell, (330) 507-4162; chairs for the event, or e-mail gs125@zoominternet.net.

For a good cause

Proceeds from the outing will directly benefit the learning center, which provides professional evaluation and appropriate instruction for children with dyslexia, a specific language-based disorder that makes it difficult for a person to learn to read, spell, write, or speak.

The funds will also be used to increase public awareness of the disability, to deliver effective treatment options, and to improve standards of training through research and education.

The Scottish Rite Masons of the Valley of Youngstown also provide free tutoring service to students and free training programs to individuals interested in serving as certified tutors in the Orton-Gillingham method of treating dyslexia.
