Severstal Warren issues plant closing notice
WARREN — Severstal Warren today issued a federal plant closing notice and said about 1,200 will remain on lay off.
The mill, which used to be known as WCI Steel, has not produced steel since October and shut down other production lines earlier this year.
Tony Montana, a spokesman for the United Steelworkers of America, said the company filed the notice to comply with the federal WARN law which requires advance notice of long-term layoffs and plant closings. The union still believes Severstal intends to reopen the mill when market conditions improve, he said.
