The Westminster College Celebrity Series brings its season to a close with “Bye Bye Birdie” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Orr Auditorium.
When rock star Conrad Birdie gets drafted, his agent organizes a nationwide contest. The prize is a farewell kiss from Conrad on The Ed Sullivan Show. Conrad and his entourage descend on the winning girl’s neighborhood, much to the chagrin of her irritable father and her
jealous boyfriend.
The full-scale Broadway touring production features the songs that earned the show eight Tony Awards: “Put on a Happy Face,” “A
Lot of Living to Do,” “One Boy” and the lament of parents with teenagers, “What’s the Matter with Kids Today?”

A Mother’s Day Eve cabaret party will be held at Larry’s Lounge, 2402 Hillman St., Youngstown, from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday night. Music will be provided by Youngstown’s Total Package Band. Admission is $7 and all who attend are asked to bring a canned good to donate to the Rescue Mission. A collection barrel will be set up at Larry’s beginning at noon.

The Salem Youth Chorus, under the direction of Jon Simsic, will present a sacred choral music concert titled “Bless Ye the Lord” at several Youngstown-area churches. The schedule includes: St. Charles, 7345 Westview Drive, Boardman, 7:30 p.m., May 15; Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, 870 E. State St., Salem, 7:30 p.m., May 16; and St. John’s Episcopal, 323 Wick Ave., Youngstown, 4 p.m., May 17. A freewill offering will be accepted. The Salem Youth Chorus was founded in 2007 to provide area teens with an opportunity to experience sacred choral music as composed by the compositional masters. It has traveled to perform at Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia and at the Choral Evensong at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. It will perform at Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City this summer. The Chorus’ two CDs are available at all performances or by calling (330) 332-9688.
